    Re: Chest Pain

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, I don't really have the option of going to Toronto. I don't travel well for starters(as it is I have to travel 4 hrs just to see my cardiologist)....also going to Toronto would be a one time thing, so I guess I would be better off staying with one regular Dr. I'd be better off going to Minneapolis(its much closer), although I don't know how that would work with insurance etc.

    Re: Chest Pain

You do have options, in the Toronoto area you have Dr. Doug Wigle - he in an internationally known and respected HCM specialist.

"Chest Pain" in a woman can be a bit different than in a man -- a woman can have chest pain in the upper back, neck, jaw and shoulders.

    be well,
    Lisa

    Chest Pain

Hi, thanks for all your great info and advice-I really appreciate it. I am learning so much. I am wondering if someeone can tell me the kind of chest pain that is associated with HCM. I get chest and back pain(on my left side) its sharp but manageable. I have pinched nerves as well as back problems(lots of tingling and numbness) and so I am always concerned about what is HCM pain and what isn't.
Right now my biggest problem is the way my chest tightens and my heart pounds when move about(it will level out if I keep moving). It is much more comfortable to sit and do nothing. Also my skipped beats(I call them that because I don't know exactly which kind they are)- they have been checked several times and are apparently nothing too serious-but man do they feel horrible.
I am on 50mg Atenelol (Lowered over the past 3 yrs from 150mg) because my blood pressure was too low. My BP is still on the low side 105/66 (I don't like it that low). My resting heart rate is a bit high-75-80ish but they for some reason don't want to switch meds. I felt better with a lower rate. Any comments??
    OK- I have questions....(of course)
What is the difference between obstructive and non-obstructive. I am obstructive but really don't know the significance of this.
and...it seems that everyone but me has had a stress test done....I wonder why they never did this test on me. Any ideas?
(They did the Amyl Nitrate on me during several echos-would that be similar)?
I was researching HCM specialists and my options are ...well...none. I did however discover that my card. is the head of cardiology at the biggest Center this side of Toronto(30+ hours away). I guess he would be the best one to see....unfortunatley I can not see a HCM specialist.
Sorry to ramble, but it is so refreshing to be able to talk to people who understand, its been a long 5 yrs on my own.
Hope you all have a good day...
