    [lightheadedness and dizzy after exercise]

    Hi everyone,

I am feeling really discussed because it seems like everytime I ask my doctor about the way I feel she just keeps saying we are going to set an appointment up for you to see a specialist. I have been walking on the treadmill and doing some weigh lifting for about 6 weeks. Last week I started have problems with feeling really lightheaded and dizzy. I am not sure what is going on. It seems like I am having palputations also. I also get tightness in my chest, and then I am just wiped out for the rest of the day. I am not sure if I should keep on doing the exercise. I was walking for 60 minutes a day, but I am down to 30 and still am having problems.

    Dora,

Have you been to an HCM specialist Yet???

I think this would be the best course of action for you at this time.

I will be out of town until next week but will be checking the message board when I get a chance. Let me know what is going on.

    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

I was scheduled to see a specialist in Phila. Pennsylvania yesterday, but my insurance wouldn't cover the visit to this doctor so I had to cancel. My doctor wanted me to go to NIH, but I told her no way and I let her read your artical in the newsletter. My insurance will only cover at the University of Maryland, but she just send my information on Tuesday and it could be 2 to 3 weeks or more until I can go see somebody. So I am like, meantime what am I suppose to do. Last week I went to emergancy room in Amblance because I was woken up around 5:00 with terrible pain in my chest just above my v bone. After about an hour at the hospital it moved over about 3 inches under my left breast for about 5 minutes and then went away. They did a EKG, put me on a heart monitor then did a chest x-ray and ran some blood test. Everything came back normal. They think it was possibly my hidal hernia, but said it could be my heart and said to go see my cardioligist who I seen on Tuesday. She didn't even discuss what happened but made plans for me to go to U.of M. I have been getting pain almost everyday since then, plus I have been having dizzy spells and lightheadness. Sometimes I feel like I am going to pass out.

    Dear Dora

Please get the name of whoever you are scheduled to see at UM. Call the doctor at UM and ask to be seen right away. If they can fit you in, call your doctor's office and tell them that you need a copy of your records to take with you and that you will pick them up before you go to the doctor.

When you call the UM specialist's office, your best bet is to ask for the doctor's nurse (they are usually able to come to the phone or call you back faster than the doctor) and tell her everything you told us in your post. I'm confident she/he will find room for you in the schedule. And if they request your files to be faxed or overnighted or whatever needs to happen, they should be able to do that.

It is ridiculous you have been jerked around like this and there is no reason for you to have to wait anymore. You need to be seen as soon as possible and you are entitled to it.

    keep us posted,

    Sarah

    Hi Dora

I feel the same way after I exercise, basically any form of exercise above walking makes me lightheaded, I get tightness/pains in the chest, Palpitations & it makes me feel exhausted for about 2 days afterwards. I have noticed the effects feel far worse after exercise now that i'm on Beta Blockers but generally I feel about 300% better so I can live with doing almost no excersise for a while : )
