    Re: dr. visit today

CFH Is tricky and can pop up with little warnings. A good way to monitor this is jumping on the scale each morning - if you are up more than 2-3 pounds you need to take action.
(this also helps you maintain your weight)

Thanks for clearing that up, Cynthia. I just didn't understand what you meant. I'm glad that you had a good checkup.

    Re: dr. visit today

To clarify, what he was stating was that my heart was strong and functioning very well (lungs clear, chest sounds good, etc.no signs of fluid retention in legs, body). No doctor can predict what your future will be. He wasn't saying that I will never get CHF. He was basically saying that I've done well with this so far. He is a cardiologist that treats several HCM patients and is very well informed.

    Cynthia

I also have HOCM with CHF, so you can have CHF when you have HCM

Ditto on the CHF issue... don't we ALL have strong hearts because of our HCM? I would probe further into that one.

I'm confused. What did he mean when he said that you wouldn't have CHF because your heart is strong? Does he mean that you don't have CHF right now or that you can't get CHF? There is a difference, ya know.

started a topic dr. visit today

    dr. visit today

saw my local cardiologist....very good, very nice and informative. He has patients with HCM. I asked him how old his oldest patients were and he told me 91 and 86. The 91 yr. old died recently but with other complications. I asked him if I was having any CHF episodes (a little fluid sometimes on inner right foot. ) He looked at it and said it was due to the bad vericose vein I have and that I wouldn't have CHF as my heart is very strong . His nurse had a long talk with me about losing weight and getting regular exercise. I promised I would do that.
