havent had a tachycardia event for over 2 months...then bingo...last night I'm just semi-lying down on the sofa and it hits. lasted 2 hours. got some sleep and now it's irratic again. Usually I dont get it again the next day. I have a choice of 3 doctors to call...my PCP (who knows alot about HCM), my local cardiologist or Tufts. this scares the beejeezus out of me! And the more I worry, I'm making it worse

Re: tach episode?
Well, figures. Talked to the cardiologist on call and said it would be a good idea to have an EKG run at the hospital. By the time I woke my son up and bring him to my mother's while my husband and I go to the emergency room, it pretty much stopped. I should ask when I see my doctor if I could keep a monitor at home until I have my next episode...you can capture it on that rather than have to go to the emergency room (if it happens at 1:00 a.m. like it did) and bring the results into the doctor. These tachycardia episodes are the most perplexing thing. I was feeling actually great and then, boom!\"It is not length of life, but depth of life.\"

Re: tach episode?
Cynthia,
I don't know what to suggest but wanted you to know that I will pray for you. I had similar problems Novembers 2001 and 2002 that lasted about a month, then nothing, then again March 2003 and nothing while I was home, then again September and early October 2003 but not much since. Catching such random events is hard, so you have my sympathy.

Do you have an ICD in you, it may not be a bad idea if you are having episodes like that, and if you have one they should record everything with your heart and they could read that and find out what kind of tach it was, i know mine is set to record anything but a normal heart beat according to Dr. Gilligan I had to call him a couple of weeks because of having 20 to 30 palpitations a day which i shouldn't have because he doubled my meds. I hope you get to feeling better

Re: tach episode?
From what they've seen (mini episodes) on a holter, event monitor, he said it looked like atrial tach. I dont have an ICD--is that for ventricular tach?? I see my local cardiologist this Thurs.\"It is not length of life, but depth of life.\"

I have an ICD because of SCD in my family It's a internal defibulator mine is dual action as it also has a pacemaker,If you are having ventriular tach i would think the ICD would be a good thing for you, I mean talk with your Dr. he may have a reason for not putting one in, but i sure feel more comfortable having mine since i watched my brother die right in front of me but that was 15 years ago and things have changed a little, I hope you are feeling better
