[Flex plans and the HCMA meeting]

    Author: Paul Murphy (---.dsl.mindspring.com)

Over the last few days all the talk on this board about medical insurance and then Sarah bringing up the subject of flexible spending accounts got me thinking: are the expenses incurred for a attending a medical conference for one's dependent deductible towards my flex plan? I called the administrators of my company's flex plan and after looking it up in the IRS tax codes (their guidelines), the answer is YES (mostly, anyway). Transportation to the conference and admissions fees to the conference are deductible; lodging and meal costs are not.

This will certainly help us, and I hope others, for the upcoming HCMA members meeting in Morristown at the end of May.

    Dear Paul

Thank you so much for looking into this. It would be nice if this new knowledge allows a few more people to attend, even if not this year, but next.

    Thanks again,
