  • "What is HCM?" video is now available...

What an experience I have had making our first informational, educational, dramatic production about HCM. For six months we have interviewed, edited, and produced the first video production for the Anthony Bates Foundation. We were able to include sports figures, coaches, parents, HCM experts and showed footage of an actual heart screening event done in Phoenix, AZ in May, 2003.

In the middle of production we did our third heart screening event at Kansas State University, October 26th. We have done (6) six heart screening events in Kansas and Arizona since Anthony died in July, 2003. None of which could have been done without the support and encouragement of our HCMA leader, Lisa!

Portions of the interviews with Lisa Salberg, HCMA President, Dr. Barry Maron, HCM Specialist, and Stewart Krug, Matthew Krug's Dad at the HCMA conference in June were also included in the video. Each person has played a huge part in this production by providing expert information. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you publicly - You guys are the best!!

I am currently making 250 VHS and some DVD copies of our video. There are 191 copies already spoken for and will be going in the mail before the end of this month. Almost 50 copies have been mailed out this week. After the copies are all made we will be uploading segments of the video onto my web-site. www.AnthonyBates.org

If you have requested a copy in the past you are probably on my list. I have sent videos out this week to Lisa and HCMA people that have requested copies. If you were not able to request a copy in the past and you would like one, please PM me your address and I'll send one to you too.

Thanks again for all your support, love and prayers. I visit the board almost everyday. Each day I learn something new. This is a wonderful place and I am happy to be a part of your great team.

    Best Regards,
    Sharon Bates

I received my copies on Friday. Thank you so much. Great job! Anthony is very proud of you, as we all are.

Even though I was not there when Matt suffered his SCA, I think the opening segment was scaringly exact to the situation. You also got me when you were describing how you heard about Anthony.

I will start showing it around. I hope to show it in January at McKean High school. Another parent who lost a child (not heart related) invited my participation at a seminar.

        Keep up the great job.

Have a safe and healthy Thanksgiving. Do turkey's survive in the 100+ Arizona weather?

          Hi Stew,
Thanks for your comments, and compliments on our video project! Let me know if you need anything for your January presentation. I think the video will speak volumns on the importance of heart screening our youth.

Yes, turkeys survive our 100+ weather. Although they have a deep golden brown to their skin not found anywhere else on turkeys across the nation!
