Have any of you found that losing weight helps with HCM symptoms? I had to lose about 30 lbs. 4 yrs. ago (not having any problems back then...occasionally SOB but thought it was due to the fact that I was 30 lbs. overweight). I felt so much better...could climb stairs much easier, etc. Well, I've gained it back and have started another diet. wish me luck

Atkins works well for many. I think the less carbs we eat the easier on our systems- - but that is my thought...and I must be honest - I can live without a good bagel at least once per week!

      Re: losing weight

Cynthia, I lost 40 lbs a couple years ago at my docs urging and it was the best thing I ever did for HCM symptoms.
Unfortunetly since mid summer I have had a lot of trouble with my hip (I have to go see an Orthopedic Specialist Monday) so I have not been riding my bike as much as I normally do and as a result since then 10 Lbs have snuck back on.
I am in the process of trying to lose that, but it is harder when you can't exercise as much as before.
      I guess it's a matter of adapting.
Every great thing that has ever happened since the beginning of time has started as a single thought in someones mind.
So if you are capable of thought then you are capable of great things
      Good luck and stay well.
      Glen
