    After Surgery Info

    Hello,

    I am planning to go under myctomy in Dec. in Mayo. I need several questions about travel and home rest.

    Trip from Mayo to Home (omaha) is about 6 hours with car or about 6 hours by air (one stop with change of plane) and trip to airport and airport to home. Will you share with me your experince and knowldge. Any reason to prefer one over the other (except for the raod condition).

    Hi Behrang,

    I had my myectomy done in Cleveland, OH and live about 4.5 hours south of there. My husband and I drove so here's my take from that perspective. My instructions were to drive stopping every hour to walk for 10-15 minutes to keep circulation moving. This is very important to do but it does lengthen your drive home. If you do opt to drive you might consider staying overnight in a hotel if you become tired or are wanting to lay down.

      I would most definately recommend staying in hotel overnight since it would be 6 hours for you. I traveled 4 hours and needed to stay in a hotel. I wish you the best with your myectomy. We chose to go in car b/c we are don't wish to travel by plane. I'm sure others had plane experiences they can share.

        Dx age 12 current age 46 and counting!
        lost: 5 family members to HCM (SCD, Stroke, CHF)
        Others diagnosed living with HCM (or gene +) include - daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, sister and many many friends!
        Therapy - ICD (implanted 97, 01, 04 and 11, medication
        Currently not obstructed
        Complications - unnecessary pacemaker and stroke (unrelated to each other)

          Behrang,

          I could not pm you it kept coming up invalid session. In answer to your
          question I had my surgery done locally. I'd suggest using a medium
          sized pillow to place against your chest or between the seatbelt.
