I am a 38 year old women who was just diagnosed with HOCM in July. I went to a local surgeon who does not specialize in HOCM but I am so far pleased with the results. I stayed in the hospital for 9 days. The only complication was that the initial ICD did not work. They had some trouble getting me back and later that day a bigger ICD was implanted.
I have now been home for almost a couple of weeks. I am having trouble sleeping because of some discomfort. My chest hurts incredibly when I try to lay in bed, but when I sit in the recliner my back hurts the entire next day. How long do you think it will be before I stop aching.
Also is it really important to actually see an HOCM specialist. There are no specialists in my area and the inconvenience of traveling doesn't thrill me. What added benefits would I receive?
I just discovered your message board a couple of days ago and I'd have to say I have read some very useful passages. Thank you for sharing your web site.
