My brother was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome
Re: My brother was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Synd
WPW doesn't have anything to do with HCM. It's an extra pathway in the heart that often conducts electricity back into the AV node instead of it following the normal pathways through the ventricles. (I hope I got that right. If not, somebody correct me.) It can cause seriously fast tachycardia but can usually be treated with either drugs or a radio frequency ablation that essentially burns the extra pathway so that it can't conduct any more.

Re: My brother was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Synd
oh my goodness...that rings a bell with me. I vaguely remember my cardiologist years ago mentioning that to me when I was diagnosed with HCM> I forgot all about this. Would this show up on an echo? I know I have (I think its' "left" bundle branch block). I'm going to ask my pcp to go back in my records and find out
Re: My brother was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Synd
Cynthia, I don't think it would show up on echo, but I do know that WPW has a distinctive stamp on an EKG. I just don't know if that marker is there all the time or only during arrhythmia.

Re: My brother was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Synd
Your ECG runs with the echo...but the echo is really looking at the structure of the heart...not the electric.
RE: WPW - it is a seperate condition....HOWEVER many times people with HCM have "conduction" problems, many look like and can be WPW.

Re: My brother was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Synd
Hello, I am relatively new, but wanted to say my daughter has wpws..and has had 2 abalations.. she still has a `racing heart ' and pain. She hasnt any insurance and has had a hard time , work is a strain.. kids etc. She is taking atenenol when pain occurs. I dont think her heart is enlarged, mine isnt just st judes valve and quad by-pass, they arent related I hope, she cant take much more.
Thankyou, Lupines
