Septal Myopathy & Mitral Valve Repair Surgeries

About the Author

Sleidheiser 64 year old female. Very active have been all my life. Owner of 2 business: Kelleys Life Newspaper, LLC and Sharon's Cookie Jar, LLC. Diagnosed October 2020 with HOCM. They didn't know what to do with me as I have low blood pressure and resting heart rate. Beta Blockers made me dizzy. I have palpitations and chest pains . Often can't sleep for more than 4-5 hours. I often wake up with an extremely low blood pressure (82/49 and high RHR 100). I am scheduled for a septal myectomy with Dr. Nicolas Smedira at Cleveland Clinic on July 8, 2021. I have only had the disease 8 months, but had symptoms for several years and didn't realize what was wrong. I always thought it was stress-related as I worked 50+ hours weekly. • Septal Myopathy & Mitral Valve Repair Surgeries

I am scheduled for septal myopathy & mitral valve repair surgeries in July at Cleveland Clinic and wanted to know how others have faired with these surgeries as far as pain, recovery time, things to note (like consipation the entire time in the hospital). I heard ICU is fine because you're on a lot of drugs and your in a fog for most of that first day. Once in a regular hospital room they have you walking and start weaning the drugs as soon as they can. What drugs did you get when you went home? I do not do well with drugs in particular opioids. I can't take anything orally as I throw up. Has anyone been given shots that they do in their stomach? I am fortune enough to have a brother-in-law that's a retired cardiac nurse taking care of me for 2 weeks after the surgery. He worked for Medtronics as a technical support nurse before and after surgeries. How long did everyone need someone to stay with them after the surgery? I understand 6 weeks before you can drive or is it longer?
