  • List of Experienced septal myectomy centres in US or UK

    Hello Everyone.
Could you kindly list centres of excellence or surgeons other than CCF or Mayo. I am looking to have septal myectomy and mitral valve repair procedure in either the US or UK since unfortunately there is not much expertise available in Pakistan for it.
    Grateful.
    wish all good health!

    Hello Intention....Welcome to the forum.
If you go to the home page for HCMA you will see a section that says "Find a center of excellence" click on "search" without entering any state and it will provide a list of all the COEs in the US. The numbers of myectomies performed at each will be vastly different....Mayo and CCF do over 200 a year....Tufts and John Hopkins I believe have pretty large surgical programs. You may want to call the HCMA office and see if they can help you with narrowing the field to the COEs with well documented surgical programs in the US.
For the U.K. You should contact their Cardiomyopathy Association at Cardiomyopathy.org
Is there a reason you want to look outside Mayo and CCF? Doing as many myectomies as they have done for decades, they are able to handle even the most unusual anatomical issues that might show up once they are inside your heart.
I went to Mayo myself for the surgery.
    After years of symptoms:
    Officially Diagnosed HOCM 2006
    Myectomy 3/11/13 at non-COE
    Extended Myectomy 7/23/14
At Mayo with Dr. Joseph Dearani

Johns Hopkins is no longer considered a Center of Excellence -- it may become one again, but they key people there left for another institution.

Otherwise I agree with everything Jill said.

There are published data now that show that the success of myectomies is substantially better at the high-volume centers than elsewhere. In the US, this means Cleveland, Mayo, and Tufts.

Thanks for the correction Gordon.....So is there any high volume, HCM COE surgical center on the west coast??
or is it pretty much Mayo, CCF and Tufts?

Thank You So much. Since I am coming from outside the US was looking at options as I have a feeling Cleveland or Mayo may be out of my budget. Currently trying to seek appointment from either Dr Takayama at New York Presbyterian Columbia University or Dr H Rastegar at Tufts. Will go for whichever is affordable. If anyone knows about them , I shall be grateful for guidance .
            Regards
