any connection between the thyroid gland disorder (underactive or overactive) and affecting the heart? It seems that there is mention of they thyroid when talking to someone with a heart condition...also, in my family...father had overactive thyroid and HCM and me also.

An overactive thyroid has often been found to be the cause of palpitations and even atrial fibrillation. It is by no means the only cause of these things. Heart disease occurs more often as a person ages, and so does a thyroid problem. But then, so does diabetes. So it isn't unusual for a person to have multiple problems. In fact, as we age, it may be even more unusual for a person to have only one problem . Now that's a real day brightener, isn't it? Linda

For the record, at the ripe old age of 34, I was diagnosed with HCM. About 6 months later I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, caused by Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Then, 3 years later, I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor called an acoustic neuroma and hydrocephalus.

I hope that all my fun discoveries are over now, because I feel like I have had enough diseases to manage for 3 people! I can't wait for old age and see what it brings!
