    [regrowth after an A.A.?]

    Author: Amy Woods (164.119.203.---)

    Date: 04-12-02 07:47

Has anyone who has had an alcohol ablation had any regrowth? If so, how long did it take to come back.

Is there anyone who has IHSS (or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and had an AA and then have the disease come back as a different problem?

Although my mother and I had the same disease she had more of a rythym problem mine was more of a blockage. Now that I've had the AA and the blockage is gone, how likely is the disease to "come back" as a rythym problem or something else?

    Thanks for any help!!

    Dear Amy

Personally, I don't think you have anything to worry about, from what I know of the AA procedure and from what people have told me about their experiences.

I've not had an ablation myself, but I've read a lot of posts from others about theirs.

Enjoy the success of your ablation and I'll see if I can find out any hard numbers for you.

    take care,

    Sarah

There have been many cases of regrowth after A.A. , far more then with myectomy. However, it appears that if there is going to be regrowth it happens shortly after the procedure itself.

    thanks to you both!

Any ideas if there is tendencies for the disease to "reinfest" itself in another way? Like my mom had.

    Dear Amy,

It is unlikely that your mom's HCM "turned into" something else but that the strain of HCM on the heart caused other problems, or she simply develeped a new problem, too. People with HCM are not immune to heart disease or anything else.

My mom's hypertrophy gradually went down to normal after 20 years on a beta-blocker, but it didn't change the electrical system in her heart. She still needs medication to stay in rhythm and she has some valve regurgitation, now too.

I think the best thing for you to do is to stay positive and take really good care of yourself. Worry over "might be"s isn't beneficial. Make sure you see your doctor regularly and listen to your body.

    take care,

    Sarah

    QUick answer...

YOur heart has 2 significatly different portions...PLUMBING and Electric...

Some with HCM have more of a "pumping" or plumbing problem, other have more of rthym problem or electrical. Why you ask? good question and one that has no one or clear answer why HCM shows up multiple was in one family.

Call the office and we can talk more!
