    what will an MRI show that an echo doesn't??

    Wall motion, it shows a better picture of motion. The pictures are clearer than an echo.

    Dx age 12 current age 46 and counting!
    lost: 5 family members to HCM (SCD, Stroke, CHF)
    Others diagnosed living with HCM (or gene +) include - daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, sister and many many friends!
    Therapy - ICD (implanted 97, 01, 04 and 11, medication
    Currently not obstructed
    Complications - unnecessary pacemaker and stroke (unrelated to each other)

      Os this common practice? I have never heard of having an MRI. Do they only do this for those with more obstruction?

        MRI's are used in several cases.
        1. when the echo image is not very clear.
        2. sometimes when symptoms are progressing and it is unclear why - an MRI can see more and provide help.
        3. a great deal of research is being done in this area.
