I was diagnosed with HOCM 7 years ago after passing out on a treadmill while running. After a year of beta blockers, I continued to have the lightheadedness I had always attributed to getting up too fast, 8-10 times per day. Anyway, before I had my surgery I could barely run for 2 minutes without breathing so heavy I thought I would die. Since my surgery I have had one child, I ran a ten mile race, and am currently expecting my second child at the end of june. I didn't realize how bad I felt until I had this surgery and felt good again. I was 24 years old when I had the procedure, and I would do it again in a minute. I have since become a cardiac sonographer myself, and when persons are diagnosed in our hospitals, I have been asked by our docs to speak to these people. Please feel free to contact my if you have any questions about my experience with this procedure. Good luck to all. Maria
