  • Off to Cleveland tomorrow morning

    Hi everyone.

Well the time has finally come for me to see a specialist. I am so happy I can finally see someone that knows what they are doing.

Yesterday was my six month check-up with my cardiologist, anyway when I showed her my schedule and told her I was seeing a specilist and what they were doing when I go there, she was like "Do you realize you have had all of this done, and it is all a repeat, it is such a waste of time and money." When I explain to her that many people that deal with this disease have posted on here (this site), how much better things were after seeing a specialist, she said, " Well if it does good for your mental state then I guess it will be worth it." I was so upset with her I wanted to walk out the office and never go back to her, but instead I am going to prove her wrong. Well I still have to pack so I best get off of here and get it done.

In my personal opinion, a good doctor appreciates and respects second opinions of specialists. If my doctor responded in that way, I would find a new one. I would ask my specialist if they knew anyone in my area that would work with them to coordinate my care when I'm at home.

Since HCMers need ECGs often and echos every 1-2 years anyway, it shouldn't even make any nevermind to her that you are having them done elsewhere. She should be grateful for the insight into your condition and excited about possible new treatment options for you.

      WE ARE!!!!!!!

let us know how it goes!

Any good cardiologist (or doctor) should know what it is that they don't know and support a second opinion from a specialist. My trip to Cleveland changed my life by such a dramatic degree that it is hard to even begin to explain. The staff at Cleveland did their own tests, some of which were repeats, and at the end of the day provided me with a definitive treatment plan. IMHO, money well spent!

Good luck and let us know what happens. I will be thinking of you.

            How did it go?

I trust that your experience with the specialists from Cleveland was a lot better than your cardiologist. Incidently, cardiologists who mention time and money should have their licenses revoked! I've been through the same thing up in New Hampshire with THE MOST arrogant pediatric cardiologist known to man. Follow the advice of the moderators on the board and kiss your cardiologist goodbye.

Let us know how things went and best of luck to you.
