    I am finally going to see a specialist!

    Hi again Lisa, Sarah, and everyone else that reads this.

    I finally got an appointment schedule at Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Lever, for next month. I am really looking forward to seeing a specialist. I have gone to so many different Dr. and just have not gotten the results that I am looking for. When I made an appointment they were telling me all the test they will do. I am feeling really good about it, cause from what I have read here on the board and the newsletter I finally feel like someone that knows what it is all about, will be see me.
    It is closer to go to NYC but they do not take my insurance and I would have to pay out of pocket and then the insurance company would pay me back, but I don't have the money up front, so I called my insurance company and Dr. Lever does praticipate in my insurance. It is a little further to travel, but it will be worth it.

    Thank you for all the help although it has been almost a year, never give up, eventually it will happen.

      Dx age 12 current age 46 and counting!
      lost: 5 family members to HCM (SCD, Stroke, CHF)
      Others diagnosed living with HCM (or gene +) include - daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, sister and many many friends!
      Therapy - ICD (implanted 97, 01, 04 and 11, medication
      Currently not obstructed
      Complications - unnecessary pacemaker and stroke (unrelated to each other)

        What sort of tests are they going to do on you? I would like to know what to expect when I see my specialist. So far the only thing asked for is the tape of my echocardiogram which didn't turn out so great according to the report. ( mean the quality of the echo wasn't good)

          For a new patient, CCF will do the following:

          Medical History
          Blood Work up
          EKG
          Echocardiogram
          Chest X-Ray
          Stress Echo (treadmill with breathing tube)
          Holter Monitor (48 hour, you take it with you and send it back)
          Initial visit and follow up visit with Dr. Lever.

          Assemble a list of questions for the Dr. prior to going. It is hard to think on the fly when he is asking you if you have any questions!!

          Good luck at CCF. Dr. Lever is a wonderful physician and a great guy!

            Ditto to Bob's reply. I went to various Doctors and Hospitals throughout NYC and found the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Lever to be most thorough. I had my myectomy done in Cleveland in Nov. 2002 also. Good luck on your visit I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
