I had my surgery in St. Louis, Mo. The surgeon doesn't folow me and
there are not any hcm drs. here. My cardiologist thinks he is qualified
to treat me. I'm not sure if my pursuing this without his help will get
me anywhere. He tells me since I'm doing o.k. he can't justify it.
Lisa is working on getting some info. to me. She is so wonderful.
I just don't know if I'm being unreasonable to ask to be seen at a
specialty center. Thanks for your help. What kind of followup do
most myectomy patients receive? My surgery was done 8mos. ago.

    Thank You,
    P. S. I cannot get logged in to post a reply most of the time. I had to
go under new topic to send this.

Margie, your followup at this point would be treatment for HCM, and preventing complications down the road. The surgeons do like to know how their patients are doing, they like to know they've been successful and you are feeling better. I thought maybe you had gone to one of the centers for your surgery, which would already make you known to them. I'm glad you're working with Lisa. It never hurts to have a second opinion. At least then you have peace of mind. I would think it would be reassuring to that doctor also. Good luck, Linda

As for the logging on and technical probs - Tim and Sarah - jump in any time. Thanks, Linda

I feel very strongly about this. It is your health that is the issue here. If you want to be seen by a specialist in HCM, then you should make it happen. It is not unreasonable to request this. I am not sure what your cardiologist has to "justify." Healthcare should be a working relationship between patient and doctor but the health in question is always the patient's. I know everyone's situation is a little different.
