I know that any doctor cannot predict this, but has anyone out there been taking medications for HCM (due to congestive heart failure) for many years??

CHF is reversable - you will likely manage it with meds and revert back to "normal" then have periodic episiodes of CHF - this can go on for 20-30 years!! maybe longer....do not worry

Thanks for your input. It's just that I have known that I had HCM since the mid 80's and have been very fortunate to not have experienced ANY problems up until now. I know that I am being referred to some of the top HCM specialists in the country at NEMC. My doctor was "concerned" about my left ventricle being somewhat "beefy" as he put it but didn't act like I had to be seen ASAP...I have an appt. in Boston in early March. I'm just so nervous because I had possible CHF a few months ago>it's just that when I first heard those words "congestive heart failure", from my other doctor, I almost broke down right then and there because all I could think of was my father who died of that, but he was almost 72...I'm only 49 yrs. old with an 8 yr. old son and hoping for the best. I know medicine has come a long way and hoping I do too! thanks again.\"It is not length of life, but depth of life.\"
