Hi Bryan,
You can go online and do a search for this test. Just put in vo2 cardiac
stress test or vo2 stress test. They have quite a bit of info. for you to
read and it explains the normal values too.
Good Luck,
Margie

stress tests
Dear Bryan,
It is sometimes easier to just ask for a copy of the report and go over it with your doctor later as they are measuring alot of stuff.
Basically, the big deal is your heart rate and your blood pressure. There are normal parameters you want to be in. If you aren't, why not and which way and what treatments are they suggesting?
What about your echo? Have you had one lately and what does it say?

Bryan, This is a stress test that will use equipment to measure the efficiency of the heart's capability to pump the oxygenated blood to the body muscles, but also the efficiency of the muscles taking up the oxygen from the circulating blood to be used for energy. One of the things we learned from the HCM Summit last Oct., was that there is thought to be a possibility of a mismatch in the way muscles of an HCM person take up oxygen from the circulating blood. It is likely that muscles other than the heart muscle are affected. It is still under study. So this test will evaluate not only how your heart pumps the oxygenated blood, but how your body utilizes the oxygen once it is pumped out. Good luck, ask for results and explanations. Then help us all to understand this test a little better with your first hand experience. Linda

in between
Dear Bryan,
Are you seeing an HCM specialist? Because there is a BIG gap between medication therapy and a new heart. There is a myectomy, an ablation, a pacemaker ---have these been considered? Evaluated? Are you an ICD candidate?
What am I missing?

Linda, thanks for the explaination it helped me to understand it more. Ive been seeing Dr. M Maron and the team at NEMC since Sept. They have me on 480 mg of verapamil once a day, but I continue to have chest pains and sob. They talked about a myectomy and ablation but found I have no obstruction.I was then also put me on lopressor 25mg 2x a day, which made me extremely tired, so ive since been takne off the lopressor. Ive had my ICD for 9 years. Dr Udleson feels that seeing im not responding well to medication therapy there isnt to many other options. So im stuck its a scary thought to think about at 26.

Bryan, yes, it is a scary thought. Hopefully, the testing will help with some other options. I know Drs Maron and Udleson will not take this lightly and will be calling any and all resources they have for additional info/input. It's good to know if your lungs are in good shape and not suffered secondary to the heart problems. Stay in touch, Linda
