    Lisa/Sara:

Idea for a new message board segment. Set up a kids only page with similiar restrictions to what you set up for the medical message board. That way you can control who goes on the kids only page. Might make them open up a little more with each other, while protecting them from "uninvited" guest.

    Just a thought.

Thoughts have already happened and some ideas are following...how to this is the trick.. I think I may set up an entire site just for kids so the medical information is not in a place they can find it too easy.... Parents...teens your thoughts please???

I think a kids page would be a great idea!

        Re: Kids Page

I think it's a great idea as well, Lisa. Couple of thoughts...

        1. If i were a young person with this disease, i know i would appreciate having a place to go and interact only with kids my own age... and not just to chat about HCM, but even just to talk about everyday normal childhood things that kids like to talk about, and no adults allowed in the clubhouse! LOL

        2. I'm torn about keeping the medical info and other sections of the forum out of reach... it's a tough call. I know i want my son to have as much information about HCM as possible, and not always shelter him from the facts of this disease. But i also want to make sure he doesn't read every horrifying thought that pops off the top of anyone's head either. Perhaps it's just a matter of encouraging the parents (HCM or not) to join the regular forum so that they and their children might surf these areas together.

        3. In determining whether or not to do this, i don't know that i would take into consideration the number of children that are currently members. I think until we have a seperate area just for them, that there simply won't be a desire for them to join. And even if it's just a handful of children that ever use the area, i think we would all agree that it is worth it.

        4. How much difficulty is there in setting this up, even if for right now it's just a seperate, protected area on the current board? Who would be responsible for doing the work on this?

Thanks for letting me put in my two cents worth, and thanks to Lynn for making the suggestion! As a dad, i'm just trying to think about what my own son would want and feel comfortable with.

Setting up either a separate forum section (similar to the Dr's Only) is quite easy to do and would take less than a minute to create. Creating a totally new kids only message board with multiple sections is a little more work but certainly possible.
          Thanks, Tim

Great Idea, I think it would be very valuable for kids to talk to other kids with the disease. That is what Sarah would like to do. Keep me posted.
