Just to let you all know that I received my ICD 12/20. Long day waiting until 5 pm for surgery to start and then because of other people problems it did not start until almost 8 pm. Was sick thru the night and part of the next day from the meds but was allow to go home late Saturday and return the 26 for my prerelease check. Wanted me to stay but was willing to work around the holiday and the high cost of staying in the rooms until I could be working into the lab. The left side is sore but I’m doing good and getting better every day. Glad to have the protection if I go down again. I also entered into a research study on the ICD. It is call empiric programming which will make the ICD implant simpler and more efficient and will take advantage of all the features the ICD has to offer. It hopes to decrease the amount of painful shocks and safely treat fast heart rhythms. The group working with Dr. Wilkoff is doing the research. It will also record additional data for the doctors to work with. I hope it will help my family or others in the future that is why I agreed to it. Then I agreed to it only after talking to Dr. Asher. The family was also asked to participate in the gene study the CCF is doing in the future. Need to rest now but thought I should let the site know how things are going.

Dear Pat

So glad you checked it. It gets better each day as you heal. Don't you feel a weight off, knowing the little box is in there?

Happy New Year!

Sarah

I feel better knowing that if something happens the little box is there to help prevent sudden death. Never thought that I would need anything but the medicine I have been taking for the past 5 years. Without this site and the things I have learned, I would not have contacted CCF or Dr. Asher. My family still things that my going down was not a good reason to have a ICD implanted. I just hope that it will not take a death to get them to change their minds. The GP doctor here still thinks that I have mild HCM and did not understand why I had a ICD implanted without a EP test. Guess we will have to help educate her on HCM. She is willing to learn.

Dear Pat,

Good for you!! Family may not want to look at the possiblity that you could've just as easily _not_ gotten up from that going down... it happens.

It is hard to stick to your guns when the family is not on board ( I know this first hand).

Take care,

S
