    [congestion]

I was curious if anyone out there experiences congestion on a regular basis. I explain it as "gurgling" and wheezing, especially when lying down, but do get it at times standing. My doc tells me to increase my Lasix when this occurs, but honestly doesn't help me. My husband took me to the ER a few days ago and I was diagnosed (for the 2nd time) with pnumonia and bronchitis. They took a lung x-ray and found a suspicious spot on my lung. To be honest, I think I don't have pnumonia and am wondering if it is a symptom of HCM. Any thoughts?

    Kimberly,

I experienced what you are talking about during my last pregnancy. I was told that I developed Asthma....Asthma med did not help at all. Then I was told it may be mild heart failure...and I was put on lasix...that didn't help either. I would gurgle and wheeze whenever I'd lay down to go to bed. Luckily, it went away after the pregnancy...altough I don't know exactly what caused it, I am certain it was domething due to my HCM. I did however, at one point develop a chest infection during this time...I think the gurgling and wheezing made me more prone to one. If you are having a little congestive heart failure, maybe your lungs are more vunerable to infections. I don't know if any of this helps, but I hope you get sorted out. Maybe you should get a second opinion from a HCM specialist if it doesn't go away.

    Best Wishes, Amy

I would get to a cardiologist who know HCM well. These symptoms maybe serious and may need attention...and they may not be related to HCM. A spot on the lung is not associated to HCM so you may want to see a pulmonary doc as well.

let us know how you make out. I hope you feel better soon!!!

    KIMBERLEY,

I HAD THESE SYMPTOMS SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND THOUGHT I HAD

ASTHMA. I WAS ON 2 DIFFERENT INHAILERS.

MY CARDIOLOGIST CHANGED MY MEDICINE AND IT WENT AWAY.

HOPE ITS THIS EASY FOR YOU.

I went to the urgent care unit at my HMO a little over a week ago...was congested...had a little wheezing and little popping noised in my chest/throat area especially when lying down. I was diagnosed with HCM several years ago but have felt fine. The doctor at urgent care diagnosed me as having Bronchitis. He prescribed an antibiotic and cough medicine for the cough. He took a chest x-ray and came into the room and told me "you have a big heart"...I explained about the HCM...in any event, two days later I was just sitting watching t.v. when I noticed my right foot and leg had edema. I haven't had it since I was pregnant 8 yrs. ago. Finally got to see my primary care physician yesterday...they took another chest x-ray. She found fluid in my lung but said it was not consistent with a pneumonia. I have been short of breath since I went into the urgent care. I started taking Lasix to get rid of the excess fluid in my system. I am seeing my cardiologist this Friday. Haven't had any fainting spells, or chest pain, just the shortness of breath and fluid...sometimes a little cough left when I bend over. I'm hoping for the best. I have been on Vioxx for approx. 5 months for osteoarthritis. She mentioned that it is a slight possibility that could be a cause...anyone out there have anything similar happen who is taking Vioxx?

    Dear Cynthia,

Are you seeing an HCM specialist? It sounds like a good time to do so if you are not already.

    Take care,

    Sarah
