Taking it one step at a time

Mike, I think that it is great that you are taking a step in the direction of working out. I am 20 years old and a student at Indiana University. Along with having HCM, I find the time to work at a gym as a personal trainer and yoga instructor, I also work oout myself everyday. This is definetly a change from the point I was a few years ago. If staying health and fit is what you are interested in, it is possible without using large weights, and in some cases no weight at all. It is amazing what you can do with your own body. My boyfriend is a competitive body builder and has gotten me interested in competing also. I come home on the weekends to train with someone who specializes in bodybuilding and this morning I did a quite strenuous workout and never touched a weight. Believe it or not I never ever ever get on a treadmill, mainly because I too am afraid to get my heart rate to high. It may help you to find yourself a training partner, it can be someone who is on a totally different level than you, but has a positive attitude and is aware of your condition. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!! If you have any questions about this stuff let me know or if you have any suggestion that are working for you, I am always wanting to learn.

    joined a gym.

Hi everyone. I joined a gym this week at my job(its located in the bsmt.of my officce bldg.)I have spoke to my dr.and he gave me the ok for a mild exercise program.no weights over 20lbs. and heart rate no greater than 140.which sounds insane to me because I become frightened when my heart rate gets near 100beats per min. I wanted to do this for a few reasons but mainly is fear I have noticed lately over the last 3 mos I have become more sedentary and have gained weight about 10 lbs.I know that doesnt sound like an emergency, but no one was alarmed when the titanic first hit the iceberg either.I was diagnosed a year ago april.and currently take 200 mg toprol&120mg verapamil as well as altace.I have spent this week walking for 30 min on the treadmill avg speed of 3 mph.and lifhting 3 and 4 pd weights.I cant seem to break a sweat, but I feel alot better doing something.(A body in motion tends to stay in motion). Its a little comical because everyone else is running on the treadmill or going nuts on the skiing machine or whaterver you call it.their is sweat flying and people out of breath not to mention the beefcake weightlifting types. then picture me if I didnt tell you Ihad hcm you wouldnt know anything was wrong with me.Im there today next to some guys benching heavy weight and giving each other high fives and theres me curling a 3 lb dumbbell I must look ridiculous. I must stay grateful that atleast Ican do something.and who knows maybe if I cont slow and steady.I will improve just saying hello Ihope everyone is well take care mike ob also go see million $ baby its a great movie
