I realize not every heart has a match, but it difficult to hear the numbers.

Has there ever been a thread here that details the process by which donor hearts are selected?

Re: Donor hearts going to waste

I read an article a while ago on heart transplants in people over 65 and they were talking about how including older recipients could put to use a number of the marginal and rejected hearts that are being discarded.
I see it this way, If I'm 66 with diabetes and hypertension as well as HCM......Should I need a transplant, a heart from a 50 year old without HCM would be fine, even if they did have diabetes or high blood pressure.....I'd still be ahead of the game.
I am not in that situation right now.....but I would imagine anyone waiting for a heart who reads that article would be very disheartened....no pun intended.
      After years of symptoms:
      Officially Diagnosed HOCM 2006
      Myectomy 3/11/13 at non-COE
      Extended Myectomy 7/23/14
At Mayo with Dr. Joseph Dearani
