I rec'd the following from a medical alert braclet company (hope Paige) and thought it was of value to pass along -
Warning about a medical alert system scam that has been targeting the elderly, disabled and diabetics. Victims have been conned into giving away their personal information, including their social security number, and then have been charged monthly for a service they were told was free. We encourage you to share this message with friends and family to prevent them from mistakenly distributing their private information.
Please keep the following tips in mind to avoid falling victim to a phone scam:
Ask for something to be sent in writing
Ask for the company’s physical address
Never give your bank information or social security number to an unknown caller
Never cash a check from an unknown source or wire money to someone you don’t know
File a complaint with the FTC and your state’s Attorney General when you encounter a scam, even if you have not been a victim.
