    I was wondering if anyone knows how to calulate left ventricular diastolic function, left atrium function and ejection fractions from a standard non-invasive echo?

    I've had numerous echos done in the past, but few of them give numbers of these things.

      It looks that way doesn't it! I asked my EP in his office and he said he didn't know and that he wasn't an echocardiologist.

      What about you Jim? Do you know about the level of your own diastolic function and/or atrial pressure?

          Abby,

          Cool find--definitely appeals to the engi-nerd in me! I've been doing a little reading to try to understand the technical aspects of these tests since I've been spending so much time around the echo/ultrasound and ECG equipment lately. This site definitely helps!

          Unfortunately, it looks like IVRT is a measured value and not a calculated (see the other thread of discussion).

            Hi Abby,

            Thanks for the reference. I actually came across this a few days ago. Some of it I understand, others parts I don't. One of the best measures of diastolic function is isovolumetric relaxation time, but there is no mention of whether this is calculated by a formula, or whether it is simply machine measured.

            One other useful measure of diastolic function, I believe, is Deceleration Time (DT). This shortens with decreasing LV compliance. So, the lower the DT, the more diastolic dysfunction there might be. It is also inversely proportional to atrial pressure. So, if the DT measurement is high (a normal DT is about 200±32msc), it would signify lower atrial pressure (which is good).

            As I understand it, these are not the only measures of diastolic function and only give a partial picture. But I think that can allown me to see how my echos have changed over time.
