I just had a myectomy 4 weeks ago. My doctor told me that after 6 weeks I can resume my regular lifestyle. ( going back to my normal diet, driving, going out with freinds again) I am 18, senior in high school. My question is, if I were to go out and have a few beers with my freinds after 6 weeks, would that be okay? They said my obstruction was basically gone now. I have an ICD and I have never had arythmias. I have never been shocked by my ICD and I have had it for 4 years now. I have drank before the operation just fine and haven't had any difficulties. Would having a few beers with my freinds be okay after 6 weeks? Or could it interrfere with the eventual outcome of the operation, or healing process? I know that drinking isn't a great idea in someone with HCM, but after 6 weeks of being miserable here at home and not having much fun, i want to have some fun with my freinds, expecially since we are all going to college after this summer. Please tell me what you all think! thanks

Not the best idea for a number of reason (not the least of which you are not 21)
Your system has just been through a shock and alcohol is just about the last thing it needs now. Hydration is important and alcohol will dehydrate you. You are also at a hightened risk for atrial arrythmias post procedure for a few weeks - atrial arrythmias can lead to stroke - do you really want to go there?
Give your body some more time to rest. You have a nice long life ahead of you in which you can do all kinds of things - like drink beer

Drinking after a myectomy is probably not the best idea. You're already more prone to A-fib and the like as it is following a myectomy... alcohol is just going to increase your risk of complications. Not to mention helping to stiffen up that septum and possibly cause even bigger, irreparable damage down the road. A drink every now and then isn't going to kill you, dont get me wrong, but do try to avoid going overboard.
