Although it may be an hour plus away.....Going to an HCM Center of Excellence would be the very best choice to start with. I think University of Maryland Heart and Vascular Institute in Baltimore is the closest to DC 410-328-7877.
Once he/she has a good evaluation and set of recommendations .... The center might be able to recommend a more local Cardiologist to work with in DC. Also, you can always try calling the HCMA office and ask if they have a recommendation in the DC area. Or ask on the HCMA Facebook group.
    After years of symptoms:
    Officially Diagnosed HOCM 2006
    Myectomy 3/11/13 at non-COE
    Extended Myectomy 7/23/14
At Mayo with Dr. Joseph Dearani

      Hi T,

Just logged in for the first time in a long time; sorry for the delayed response.

I'd echo Jill, and recommend making the trip to the UMD in Baltimore. Surprising as it might be in a city like DC, I haven't found an HCM expert here. I'm still getting care from Dr. Lever in Cleveland (one of the OG's when I needed it in 2003). When my son needed screening earlier this year, I took him to Dr. Rosenthal at U.Md. (at Lisa's suggestion) and was well taken care of. (Dr. Rosenthal is the pediatric guy there; since your son or daughter is college age he or she would probably see one of the adult docs there.)

      Good luck!

      Pacemaker dependent (no ICD)
      Thankful and doing fine
