    CBS Evening news...

    So it has been a unique day here at the HCMA office... Dr. Jon Lapook of CBS Evening News with Katie Couric was here. They are doing a story about the use of genetic testing and they will be tell my daughters story about how we used genetic testing to help identify her as having HCM. We then took a road trip to the barn and Becca tacked up the horse while being interviewed - then went for a ride. She was great! They talked a bit about her ICD she did a great job!

    I am a very proud mom tonight and I think you will all be impressed with this young lady!

    The big question is when will it air... they told me it would air on Thursday then they said "that is when they told us..." which means to be that Thursday is a guess. But keep your DVR's and VCR's set and you will see us! We hope to have the full piece uploaded on the site ASAP.

    I will keep you all posted.

    lost: 5 family members to HCM (SCD, Stroke, CHF)
    Others diagnosed living with HCM (or gene +) include - daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, sister and many many friends!
    Therapy - ICD (implanted 97, 01, 04 and 11, medication
    Currently not obstructed
    Complications - unnecessary pacemaker and stroke (unrelated to each other)

                Diagnosed in June 2007, Pacemaker Oct 2007, Myectomy in Feb 2009 at Cleveland Clinic, Two daughters, both checked with Ultrasounds in 2008, all OK so far. Two grandchildren both check with Ultrasounds and all is OK to date. OH YES....Harry, the Doggie, says Hi also. sigpic

                  Yeah...What a great job the both of you have done and Becca was so composed and what a young lady. I have to say at Becca's age I probably would have been shaking knowing that all the world would be hang on to my every word. Lisa you are such a wonderful advocate for us and a wonderful mother to Becca.

                  Thanks for all you do everyday for us and I'll see you in 22 days.

                  Wire fractured, ICD and wire replced on 10/17/2008.
                  Adopted in 1979, no medical history passed on other than born with a murmur and leaky valve.
                  Married 9 years to the greatest husband that a woman could want.
                  Mother to a wonderful 9 year old boy. So far he is negative for signs of HCM.

                        What a great story and so well done . Donna and Rose are both here in Rehoboth and they, Tim and I all watched together. Actually we got it on DVR and watched it several times over!

                        Becca, girl, you have grown up very beautifully and are quite a spokesperson. Tim noticed your stylish hair cut and how he thought you looked a lot like Ashley Simpson.. I was ..wow he is right! .. but we all said we do not need a celebrity look a like for you.. because you are a celebrity already and bring so much to the education of the world about HCM by living with your HCM. Thank you Lisa and Becca..we are all proud of you!

                        Sarah had patients and staff at her hospital watching it also.. she said it was wonderful and relayed so much information and that many asked questions about HCM after.

                          You tell Becca I thought she did a great job. She was very composed and confident in her answers. She's a very matter-of-fact sort of girl, which is just what that piece needed! She's beautiful and I know you're very proud of her. Terrific!

                              Congratulations to both Lisa and Becca! Very impressive indeed. It is hard for me to believe how much Becca has grown up.
