  • First Day at Mayo

Five appointments today....everything here runs smooth as silk, very little waiting....and when you do have space between appointments there are wonderful places, large and small to rest, or eat or....sleep off your post-lunch chest pain in a recliner in the Patient Quiet Lounge like I did LOL. I have not met one disgruntled person here staff or volunteers. all have been cordial and helpful....Best thing are their underground connections so you don't have to walk outside in the heat and humidity.
These are not dark creepy tunnels, this is a sub-terrainian paradise of lounges, shops, information desks, artwork and ...a Dairy Queen.
THE IMPORTANT STUFF: Saw Dr. Steve Ommen and he determined that re-do myectomy was my best option for clinical improvement. So tomorrow I meet with my surgeon Dr. Dearani with surgery Wednesday.
    After years of symptoms:
    Officially Diagnosed HOCM 2006
    Myectomy 3/11/13 at non-COE
    Extended Myectomy 7/23/14
At Mayo with Dr. Joseph Dearani

Glad this visit provided the answers you needed. Dr. D is great! I had asked during my consultation with him if I could get photos of my heart. It was an off-handed remark, but I knew of patients that did get photos. Imagine my surprise upon check out with Dr. D's PA, they handed me 5 X 7's and "wallets" with a note that 8 X 10s will be sent by mail. 2 weeks later, I had them!

The staff there is truly dedicated to making your visit as great as it can be. They spoiled me for healthcare! Wishing you a great surgery!
