  • Vanderbilt Experience?

Our family lives in Nashville, and my husband was just diagnosed with HOCM last week. Our PCP originally referred us to a heart center in town that is not a COE, so we have scheduled a second opinion appointment with Vanderbilt Heart after our conversation with Lisa. Does anyone have any experience with Vandy? If so, what doctor would you recommend? We will also consider having a consult at one of the bigger clinics in the future, but right now we want to establish local care. Thanks all!

    Re: Vanderbilt Experience?

Hopefully someone will chime in who's gone there. Typically, most COE's only have a few HCM doctors - Whomever you are assigned to, will be focused in your care.

    Diagnosed @ 48
Saw Dr. Michael Debakey @ age 5 - "He's fine, just a little noisy"
Father to 3 boys 22, 25, 29 (all currently clear - pending genetics)
AICD - Valentines Day '08, Spark Plug replaced 11/14
After much research, I had a Myectomy @ Mayo for my 50th Birthday '08
    Quietly going insane . . .

According to the COE list, Andre Churchwell, MD is listed as the HCM specialist there.

Yes, Angus, but when I called, they told me a different doctor was who my husband need to see, and then that all of their doctors were specialized in HCM, which I highly doubt. So, I'm pretty concerned that we are not getting to the right Dr...

            Re: Vanderbilt Experience?

Please understand that a COE is part of a larger hospital and rather than a general clinic who sees all types of cardiac cases, an HCM COE, only sees HCM patients. Their doctors only see HCM patients. A COE is solely focused on HCM. Its likely that whomever you see, they will consult with the COE Medical Director should the need arise.
