  • Upcoming visit to HCM

I have an appointment w Dr. Marc Feldman. My cardio sent over all my records. I'm not sure what to expect. Any suggestions of questions to ask, advice to seek? My septum measures 2cm, I have frequent palpitation, & I'm on metaprol. I'll take all my meds & vitamins. Cardio has mentioned ICD possibly in my future. This will be costly and I want to make the most of my visit. Dr. F is not on my ins plan.

    Re: Upcoming visit to HCM

Wow! I'm going to see Dr. Feldman on the 12th. What medical history information should I get from my cardiologist. What does he need to see? i.e. EKGs etc. My medical file is huge.

I think the best thing to do would be to ask his office what he'd like you to bring. For what it's worth, when I first saw Dr. Lever, all he really wanted me to bring was the tape of my most recent echo. I'll guess that, if you had a recent Holter monitor or similar record, that might be something they'd like to see too.

They may want to see blood work and med's list too (to see a history). But Gordon's right call and ask. Most doc's welcome second opinions.

          Re: Upcoming visit to HCM

Kathy, Jessie @ Dr. F's office was very helpful. She gave me her fax and I had my cardio fax my records over "for a consult." She called me a little while later to confirm receipt. My question was more about my conversation w the dr. I don't want to realize I had more questions two days after my visit.

            Re: Upcoming visit to HCM

My visit went well. Dr. F ordered some tests that my regular cardiologist had not done yet. If you've not seen an HCM specialist, I recommend it. If Dr. F is any indication, the conversation is on a different level. He explained what the tests will show and why that is important. I hadn't understoond before the significance of my family history. I thought it was to identify other family members so they can get diagnosed or treatment. I hadn't realized that a history of heart disease in my family can be an indication that I may need a device. Although it wasn't a concern for me, I think patients may appreciate that he was sensitive to realities of modern families in which members may not be in contact with biologically related relatives.

              Mellie,
Great to hear this, and I hope your visit to Dr. Feldman leads to better treatment.
