  • Fluid on lungs ??

Hi l thought I would pop in and pick u guys brains .

About a month ago I was up in Auckland ( my transplant team) they they told me I wasn't in Heart failure as I wonted an answer (some doctors tell me I am, others say I'm not) . So they said I could stop my frusemide and the only rerson I was getting swollen ankles was a side effect to a med which they took me off .

So I stopped my frusemide and a few weeks later I get this really chesty cough and finding it hard to lie down at night went to doctor(GP) and she did a BNP blood test and it come back I had fluid on board, which she seems to think it's caused because I come of the frusemide. So I was put back on that and in 2 days I have lost 3kg and still have a ****ty cough and can't line down.

So just wondering can u get fluid on lungs from something else but HF ? Or if anyone else has had fluid on lungs and what caused it apart from CHF.? My GP things it CHF but my transplant team said I'm not in HF, surely they should know better right ? I'm due up in Auckland this Monday so i will be question someone about what has happen as Auckland don't know about my fluid yet.

    Re: Fluid on lungs ??

I had read about your fluid issues on FB. Sorry this is happening, and hopefully no surprises until you see them on Monday. You should always keep the team in Auckland aware of issues as they happen. Sometimes these things can't wait. Do keep us updated on what you find out.

Sounds like they have some investigating to do.....in my case, I take Bumex rather than Lasix, which is 40X the potency of Lasix by weight. In my case, after a bunch of digging around, they determined that the source of my problem was renal impairment rather than a cardiac issue. They have tried to reduce the diuretic dosage 4x in the last couple of months and each time the fluid build up starts again......so at this point, they have stopped trying to reduce it and are spending more time focused on improving renal function.

        Hi Margi,
There are things other than heart failure that can cause fluid buildup, but heart failure is usually the first suspect. I don't know any way that we can suggest whether something else is the cause here, though - I think you'll have to wait until you see the docs in Auckland. I hope they can get a handle on it quickly!

I have a cough. . . for the past 7 months . . . but no fluid build up. I suspected and the HCM specialist confirmed it is from my obstruction. Blood backs up in my heart, toward my lungs, and my body automatically coughs to clear it.

I agree you should let Auckland know now instead of waiting for your appointment. They may offer reassuring information that will give you peace of mind until they can take a closer look. Hang in there.

I didn't think of telling Auckland only because I had gone to GP about it and she userly rings them if she feels they need to be rang. I will send them an email anyway but it is long weekend here so by the time they get my email I will be up in Auckland . Thanks for reply I will see what doctor has to say.
