Hi!
My son Mattan is 11 years old. He has already an AICD' but we found out that is not enough for him...
The doctors want to try the alternative of Epicardial patch ICD and in the same time to perform a myectomy.
Mattan's heart mass is very large because of his HOCM - (4cm thick septum). The superfluous mass not only obstructs the blood flow (with a large gradient of 40mmhg-80mmhg), but also disturbs the conduction and the ability to defibrillate. Therefore one radical solution that has been suggested is to combine the Epicardial patch ICD with septal myectomy.
Is it possible to "combine" both in one operation?
In a child?
Thanking you in advance,
Daniela.
