    Leaving for Cleveland tomorrow

    Hi All,

    I don't write much but I sure am glued to this site and all of your input. I am going to Cleveland tomorrow (Wed.). I have pre-op tests and whatever else they have in store for me on Thurs. & Fri. I am taking the weekend to enjoy life and rest on Kelly's Island (on Lake Erie) and surgery on Monday. By the way I may live in AZ. but my hometown is Cleveland, in fact I actually worked at CCF in 1976. So I will have support from family and friends for myself and my husband Brent.

    This is not an easy thing to arrange with 2 kids in school and another kid that has special needs to deal with, but I think I got it all covered. I am more nervous about my kids than I am about the surgery. Thanks to all of you and all your experiences you have brought great peace to me.

    I'll check in with you when I can.

    I'll be thinking about you and praying for you while you are gearing up for and recovering from your myectomy. I sure all will turn out well.

    Husband has HCM.
    3 kids - ages 23, 21, & 19. All presently clear of HCM.

        Dx age 12 current age 46 and counting!
        lost: 5 family members to HCM (SCD, Stroke, CHF)
        Others diagnosed living with HCM (or gene +) include - daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, sister and many many friends!
        Therapy - ICD (implanted 97, 01, 04 and 11, medication
        Currently not obstructed
        Complications - unnecessary pacemaker and stroke (unrelated to each other)

          Diagnosed at 31.
          Cardiac Arrest 2003, RF Ablation in AZ, no positive result -
          First ICD 2003 - In 2006 lead went bad, abandoned lead, threaded new one & new generator
          Myectomy 5-5-05 at The Cleveland Clinic - Dr. Lever & Dr. Smedira -heart surgeon.
          Currently have Grade 2 Diastolic Dysfunction with pulmonary hypertension & pulmonary edema.
          My brother passed away suddenly at 34 yrs old from HCM.
          2 teenage children, ages 17 and 15.

              Hello Catherine,
              You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers while you are in Cleveland! Please know that you are in the best of care with all the doctors and nurses and staff of Cleveland Clinic. We look forward to your updates as you heal and then get ready for your return to the "valley of the sun." I hope that all your worries are lifted and you are at peace with the procedures ahead. Just know that the best outcome will be specially supervised by angels above!

              I checked in on my mom yesterday. She has a good start on your new afghan. She really enjoys making a special person like you an extra special gift. I won't ruin the surprise, but I know you will love it! As soon as you are up to some visitors on your return, I would love to get together for lunch.

                  I know it is very difficult being away from your children, but please don't worry so much about them. I'm sure they are in good hands. They need you to be healthy in order for you to guide them over the bumpy areas in life they will surely come across. So, you to Cleveland and know you will be going home a healthier person and able to do many things you struggled with for years.

                        Hey everyone,

                        Thanks for all of your support, prayers, and well wishes. Just read Mark's progress - very encouraging!
                        I am scheduled @ 10 am tomorrow - Monday. Had a chance to meet with Dr. Smedira on Friday - GREAT guy! Will keep you updated after surgery.

                        PS - Has anyone ever used "TheStatus.com?" - pretty cool! See mine by typing in "bartsch" in patient's name and "update1" in password. My husband is being real diligent in keeping it current. www.thestatus.com

                          I just went to the site you recommended. I think it's great! It gives the patient the incentive to walk and communicate with others.

                          I wish St. Mary's hospital would have this. It would pass the time.
