  • Mom's Cox-Maze & Myectomy April 6

Hey all! Just thought I would inform everyone that my mom has scheduled a date for her Cox-Maze and Myectomy (if needed). It's April 6 and it will be at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Ralph Damiano (http://www.barnesjewish.org/groups/d...asp?NavID=2174). The link is his bio. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted.

      Hi there!

I hope everything goes well for your mother. While I don't know the surgeon, I'm sure you know as well as I do (since I am a former Metro-East guy) that she'll be in good hands at Barnes-Jewish.

      Keep us posted!

Yeah, she'll definitely be in good hands there. I work there, so I'll make sure she has the best care possible. (I'm also a Metro East guy -- Wood River).

So, Mom goes into the hospital tomorrow morning at 9:00. Then comes the cardiac cath either tomorrow or Tuesday. The Cox-Maze (and most likely myectomy) are scheduled for 8:30am on Wednesday. She's getting VERY nervous now. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on her status when I have time. The next couple weeks are going to be crazy.

            Jim,

Yes, I completely understand your mom being very nervous now. I know that feeling (I have had previous surgeries and I have an appointment at CCF in about 3 weeks).

This can be a tough time. She is very brave. My thoughts and prayers are with her.

I wish your mom all the best.

            Please keep us updated.

            Hugs,

Tomorrow's the BIG DAY! The whole family is nervous... The Cox-Maze and myectomy (for sure now) will be done at 0830 tomorrow morning. She will be taken to pre-op at 0600. So, it's gonna be an early day tomorrow for all of us. Today she had a cardiac cath done and there is no blockage at all, so that is good. I'm getting ready to head to bed now. I'll give an update tomorrow evening.

They ran into more problems than they anticipated. She's still sedated and intubated. They had to go back in around 1:00 this morning because she had fluid around her heart preventing her blood pressure to rise. That was taken care of and now they're weening her off of the Flolan so that they can extabute tomorrow. So, all is well for now. I'm exhausted and I'm going to get some sleep.
