    Philip -

If you read the post more closely you would have seen that it was written in 2004 and Burton Borrok has since passed away.

I like your attitude. Sometimes, the insurance companies only care about bottom line. And sometimes its cheaper for them to deny care. The trick that helps me is to say screw them by surviving. I have plans to do what I always wanted, and that is start my buisness and help Madey and the kids out.

I just might be around for another two hundred years or so, before they can finally break even.

Don’t forget, I will probably soon be on dialysis, which is three days a week, four hours a session. Now that has to cost them some bucks – and in fact may lead down the road to a transplant. By the time I’m dune I just might outlast Methuselah – and he was around for eight hundred years. Of course by that time they will probably be doing brain transplants, and I’ll wind up with the body of a young god! Waa Hoo! Look out girls. (I still chase ‘em – I’ve just forgotten why.)

I had my Myectomy & valve replacement almost 3 months ago. The first few weeks were not a lot of fun but I am beginning to feel good. I had my surgery in Lubbock, Texas. at the one year old Heart Hospital. Dr. Shoukfeh is my heart Dr. but Dr. Burt Fowler did my surgery. I learned I had ths problem about ten years ago. I have a pacemaker, 2 stents & have had a light heart attack. So it was surgery for me. I am 75 years old. The heart hospital is wonderful, the care is super. Today I went for my checkup and Dr. Shoukfeh told me to come back in 6 months. My echo showed no graduient an he couls not hear a murmer.

    Hi Stuart,

Glad to hear you had a great check-up!

Everyone recovers from surgery at their own rate of course, but i also count myself as one of the very fortunate to have had a smooth and relatively incident-free recovery. Heck, my biggest issues to date have been fighting with the rehab folks, a few minor skin problems, and trying to remember to wear my shorts underneath my pants and not over top. LoL.

(Oh, when will my mind come back?)

It's really a joy to read your posts, knowing that not so long ago you were heading for an alcohol ablation which turned out to not be the best choice for you. But you got onto the right track to Cleveland and into very capable hands. We all couldn't be happier for you.

Best of luck to you my friend,

    Jim

    Stuart,

Good to hear the news. I go on Nov 23 for my six month check-up. I too was one of the lucky ones who had surgery and recovered quickly without any problems.

    Keep up the good recovery...

Gee Lisa...maybe he really didn't deserve such an easy time.

Stuart, I remember getting that first phone call from you while I was driving home one day. That led to the next 90 minutes on the phone with you. And that was the beginning of many people talking you out of a very unnecessary Alcohol Ablation.
I am so glad things went this well for you. See you in June.

Re: Just returned home from Cleveland - 9 week check up

    Stuart,

Please do not feel guilty or apologetic. Many of us have not had myectomies and need hope that there is a way to feel better and return to a more normal life. Actually, your post could not have come on a better day for me. I just completed a harrowing experience of getting caught on top of a hill after the last ski lift went down. I thought I could surely climb down having ridden to the top. But I was wrong. I had to stop after nearly every step and we are talking a LOT of steps (1500 feet worth) because of chest pain and weakness. By the bottom I could not even stand still without holding onto something to remain upright. This is something I could have done a year ago as long as it was downhill. So, your myectomy success gives me hope when I feel a little like crying in despair. Thank you!

Shirley, I am so sorry that you have had more bad news. We will keep praying.

    Suart

I convinced i would not be here right now posting this if i didn't have the myectomy, as bad as i was feeling

Please don't feel bad that you feeling so good it is just that some of us go a little further and advance to the transplant stage

Don't get me wrong i would be crazy to not be scared now that the doc yesterday said it may be a heart lung transplant if they can't get my left lung back into shape

Hooray for you Stuart keep up the great recovery, it makes me feel good that it is possible

    Lisa,

I don’t think I imply that “maybe you will not be as lucky” & I’m sorry you read that into it. Simply that many others have had as easy a time as I did and that we don’t hear enough from them - but they are out there.

And yes, there is a little guilt feeling when I post that I am doing so well and I read of the difficulties others are having.

    Stuart

PS: I don’t know the reason I am doing so well.

    Stuart,
I am very happy that all is going well for you. I want you to be happy about this - I can not help but note an apology tone in your posting like 'sorry I did great and maybe you will not be as lucky'...
STUART CONGRATUATIONS and SHARE YOUR secrets to what made YOUR procedure so successful. We know sometimes 'ya just get lucky' and that is great - but lets help more people do everything in their power to 'get lucky' too!

    Take care,
