  • switching to atenolol

    Hello
I am new to the forum, although I have been reading posts for the last 3 and a half years. That is how old my daughter is and how long she has been diagnosed with HCM. My husband has it as well. However he is not on medication and my daughter has been on Inderal for 3 and a half years. We went for her annual checkup today with her cardiologist(an HCM specialist) today and she wants to switch my daughter to atenolol . The reason is for mere convenience to a once a day dosage. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on treating a 3 and half year old with atenolol?
    Thanks
    Michelle

    Dear Michelle

Atenolol is simply a better (in my opinion) and newer version of Inderal and I can't see any reason why the switch wouldn't be an improvement.

I've took atenolol for about four years and didn't have any problems except at high doses with concentrating from time to time.

I took Inderal for 30 years and switched to Atenolol for basically the same reason your daughter was switched, plus it was a newer Beta Blocker.
I did better on Atenolol, but had to switch to Monocor because the Atenolol slowed my heart down too much.
        But my favorite was Atenolol.
Every great thing that has ever happened since the beginning of time has started as a single thought in someones mind.
So if you are capable of thought then you are capable of great things
        Good luck and stay well.

          switching to atenolol

          Hi
Thank you very much for your replies. Now I am just waiting to hear back from the cardiologist about whether or not Atenolol comes in a liquid form.
I hope everyone has a nice time at the conference. I would like to come but I have a conflict. I have 4 children so there is always something!

PS My other children were screened for HCM yesterday and they are clear so far!
