Re: Flu Shots?
why is it that some areas have plenty and others nothing? I have BC/BS. My PCP is part of an HMO and when I had called them last week before my physical, the nurse said that they had plenty of the flu vaccine.

Re: Flu Shots?
Hi All,
Shirley and I got our flu shots last week, and it was amazing.
We got word from our insurance company that they would be giving shots on the second floor of a casino from seven to four on a given day. This insurance is only for Medicare members. We got there at six thirty because we didn’t want to risk having them run out – and I think everybody had the same idea because the lines were humongous. I figured we were at least three hours back – but I was wrong.
We shuffled to the head of the line in about fifteen minutes. They had about twelve people checking you in and making up the forms. From there you went to one of about twelve stations where they were administering the shots. In a total of about twenty minutes we were headed back to our car – with a shot in the arm for each of us. I have never seen an operation run so smoothly in my life. Of course being us, we got the clipboards switched and filled out the information on the wrong sheet. I simply overwrote our names and insurance card numbers at the top of each sheet – and away we went.

Re: Flu Shots?
I did finally get one. Apparently when my doctors office ran their flu clinic they forgot to call me and put me on the list. Left some high risk youngins out. They then kept calling me several times a week and having me try different avenues. Finally they called on Thursday stating they had found 7 doses themselves and my doctor wanted me to come in very discreetly and not mention the words, "flu shot" in the office upon my arrival.
It was like being in a big undercover operation. So good luck anyone still looking I'm covered.
The nurses thought it was funny that the government keeps spouting that drugs from Canada may be unsafe but they are considering trying to get flu vaccine from Canada.

Re: Flu Shots?
Come to Beijing. We didn't have any trouble getting them for 70 rmb (about $9). Of course someone cracked that they were probably the doses that got rejected for sale in the US.

Re: Flu Shots?
The news up here is that there is a lot of spare flu shots to send to the US.
and it looks like they have found a way to get around your laws.
They are going to import the flu vaccine in as an experimental drug.
Apparently there are all kinds of line ups at the clinics at border crossings, so bad that they are insisting that you have the Canadian Health Card to show to prove you are Canadian to get a shot, other wise they have to pay.
Sad situation and I really hope you all get the shots you want.

Re: Flu Shots?
Hi Shirley,
With any luck, and if Canada has any vaccine to spare, we may in fact get some help in protecting our toddlers, seniors and infirm. I for one would greatly appreciate Canada’s help in this situation. With so many people walking around unprotected we just might have a disaster in the making this year.
Shirley and I will be leaving the house at a little after five this morning to get on line for a shot at a place that opens at seven. We want to get our shots before they run out of serum.

Re: Flu Shots?
Hi Scott
Maybe you should try calling your local office of your state health department as Heartmans Wife suggested (3 posts above your post). It certainly is worth a try.
Good luck

Re: Flu Shots?
HI
I live in St Louis and flu shots are hard to find. My regular doc said to get one but they will not have any until Jan. MY cardiologist said to get one but they dont give them out at the office or anywhere else.
I am a little worried about standing in line with seasoned citizens who are going to be looking at a healthy looking 42 year old male looking to score a hard to get flu shot. I guess I need to take a letter from my cardio telling them what is going on with me

Re: Flu Shots?
Well, I am blessed. I called my internist yesterday and had my flu shot this a.m. I hope everyone else finds one as easily as I did.
