As you know, any reaction, positive or negative with HCM is mainly an individual occurance.
When we last met our intrepid author, he had been having some rough nights with both chest tightness and what could have been heartburn.
This was a difficult period also due to the fact that he was about to leave on a vacation and would be away from the normal outlets for treatment.
Luckly, he was able to get a good nights sleep before he had to begin the long drive from Atlanta to Orlando. (Jeez, enough of the 3rd person)
So, the heartburn still was bothering me on the way down. Being a troubleshooter for a living, it became apparent that I needed to isolate whether the problem was truly heartburn, or possible something else. Therefore, at the next rest stop, I purchased some Pepcid AC.
A few hours later, we arrived at our hotel. My wife was all prepared to take the kids to a playground and give me a chance to rest. However, I was now feeling very good, so I was able to remain with my family. I also felt good walking around International Drive, later that night, and was able to handle an entire day at Universal on Sunday.
Throughout the last few months of my HCM, I had this strange buzz or vibe which I associated with fatigue. It would get worse in the afternoon and evenings, but it was always was there. Suddenly, this feeling was totally gone.
Now here is the weird synchronicity that occurred. We left Orlando and headed down to South Florida. While driving down, we had on some AM radio show. The subject was good health and the guest was talking about the lack of Magnesium in most peoples diets. He was saying that this was important for calcium absorbtion, especially for a healthy heart. I didn't take this too seriously, but made a mental note to check the ingrediants of Pepcid AC for Magnesium. Sure enough...
By the time I finished the drive, I was finally feeling my usual fatigue and that strange vibe was back (after almost two days).
To further check this theory out, I headed for Wal-Mart and purchased some Calcium-Magnesium vitamins. Within a few hours I was feeling good again.
Now it wasn't a perfect answer. I did have some alcohol and then experienced some tightness. I also took a long beach walk and got very out of breath. This is not something that would make me cancel my surgery. But it is something that can get me through the next 3 1/2 weeks, and something I will continue to do once the I'm recovering from the myectomy.
