does anyone know if there is any research being done to come up with a med that can actually soften the heart muscle? It appears that is what causes problems later on, the HCM heart begins to stiffen..wish they would!!

Re: drug-soften heart muscle
Sorry but it does not work that way... The "stiffness" normally comes from scar tissue and fibrosis in the heart. To "soften" would do nothing - the trick is to find ways to STOP scars and fibrosis.
Much is being done to find these answers - when we know more so will you!

Re: drug-soften heart muscle
Cynthia,
My most recent Echo showed some strange results and they had to check the thickness again against the ECG and other tests. I have actually just got off the phone to my Cardi about shortness of breath at night time. I am already on Frusemide to get rid of any fluid on my lungs but she said they want to put me on another one in case it is the thickness of the wall causing the problem rather than excess fluid.
Don't suppose anyone knows what this could be as I didn't catch the name?!
Thanks,
Tina
