are beta blockers supposed to eleviate "extra beats" (my former cardiologist used this term...If I remember correctly, when your heart fills up too fast and cause a tha-thump feeling

Beta blockers have never stopped mine and I still get it from time to time, but then I've been on them for over 30 years now so maybe if I stopped it would get worse????
My understanding is that is usually harmless.Every great thing that has ever happened since the beginning of time has started as a single thought in someones mind.
So if you are capable of thought then you are capable of great things
