It is common in HCM to have this happen - our hearts are strong and this can lead to the pulse being very strong in the neck also.

This is very true. I just started beta blockers along with a Pacer implant in April, and the pulse in my neck has become strong right after that. I have been thinking it coucl be because of the Pacer. It could be BB too.
Also, it is very odd to feel that pulsing in the neck when you lay down.
I never had this until this April.
Also, I have started feeling the occasional PVCs since april. I never felt them before.
I've always been able to feel the pulse in my neck and hear it pounding in my head which has irritated the heck out of me. Depending on the time of day or situation, like the rest of you i'm sure, i've felt my heart beating just about everywhere in my body, head to toe. It's so strange when you're trying to fall asleep at night and you swear you can literally feel the blood coursing through every vein in your body.
From what i understand Cynthia, tachycardia results from our hearts not being able to pump very efficiently so it has to work faster. (If you try to fill a tub with water a tablespoon at a time rather than a gallon at a time you have to make a lot more trips and work a lot faster to get the same job done.) Beta blockers relax the heart and enable them to do their jobs without as much extra work, hence the heartbeat slows and symptoms are (hopefully) relieved. Please somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
I've tried several beta blockers now and since switching to Atenolol my heartrate has dropped to about 70 bpm consistently, where before it was always 110 or more at rest. Now, i can hardly feel my heart beating at all sometimes, which i have to admit was a bit scary at first. LOL.
