Hi Folks,
I was on toprol for 6 years on small doses before I was diagnosed with HCM 3 months ago. Now I'm on 300 metropolol a day, and after 6 hours or so, I feel like a junkie yearning for my next FIX. I take a 100mg pill every 8 hours. In the morning, I wake up 2 hours before I intend to rise just to take my pill, so I won't be suffering for the initial 1 1/2 hour after getting up. I tried increasing the dose, but then my blood pressure dropped too low.
Is this pattern typical? I'm going to see Dr. Sherrid on Tuesday, and it would help to get some feedback on this before I see him. I don't know whether I should be asking for another drug or not.
After taking the 100 mg Metropolol, I can count on a good 5 hours in the middle of the 8 hours before I take another pill. Since I am legally disabled and don't have a lot of pressure in my life, I can tailor my day around these time periods of being capable and then, in the afternoon needing to spend 3 hours in bed. But it would be good to be able to rely on myself more consistently than this.
