This may get lengthy.. :/
My husband was just recently put on Metoprolol. I guess it's been nearly 2 months now, or right at it..
He hates it. I take it myself, and have for several years, for bp and it does have it's side effects but I don't hate it. I know people react differently to medications and I don't have HCM so there's that to consider as well.
I know that a lot of HCM patients take it. But it seems like he's just really having a rough go on it.
I've looked up the side effects on several occasions but there are two that I never see listed that he's been experiencing.
Only when I look it up specifically on a search engine do I come up with a little something..
Has anyone here ever experienced extreme moodiness while on Metoprolol (tartrate)? He gets in these moods where he just feels really uptight and really angry. It's really strange and it's just very recently started in the last couple of weeks. Extremely out of character for him.
The other side effect is really scary to me..
He's been having a lot more heart flutters and skipped beats. Way more than he used to have before being put on it.
One night a couple weeks ago, he took an allergy pill. It was an allergy medicine that he's used before on different occasions and he was always fine. But that night and the next morning and even days after he took it, he was feeling really poorly. He was tired. He was having a lot of flutters and one evening he experienced a little chest pain.
We found a couple of articles about the anger issue.
Then when I looked up the flutters/skips, I also found another man who thought he was experiencing the same thing.
Is this possible? Is the medicine causing this? It has to be, right? It's the only thing that makes sense to us right now.
It's gotten to him so much that he has days where he doesn't even want to take it at all. He just wants to take his Verapamil and be done with it. Our next appointment is in a couple weeks so we plan to discuss it with the doctor then, but I'm concerned even then that the doctor might not listen.
Last we spoke, he talked about taking my husband off of the Verapamil and just having him on Metoprolol. My husband is definitely not going to want to go for that. I'm really hesitant to go for that, myself.. because of the skips and flutters and because some days he doesn't want to take the medicine. If he chooses not to take it or to skip a dose then not even the Verapamil will be there..
So. This next appointment is to, I'm assuming, go over his most recent echo and discuss medications.
Anyway. I feel like I've gone on for a really long time.
If you read all of this, I'm so very grateful. Any thoughts? Have you, or anyone that you know, ever experienced either of those things while taking Metoprolol?
