I posted a few weeks ago, and stirred up a lot of discussion when my son was diagnosed with possible HCM, and his involvement in sports, etc. Well, I thought I'd update you and say that he had more testing last week and they are not terming it hypertrophic cardiomyoapthy now. His septum is mildly enlarged (14 mm) but no obstruction, no arrhythmias, no family history, no symptoms, etc. He has been very very active in sports, with a hectic schedule since last summer, and now they suspect its an "athlete's heart". He will continue to have it monitored on a regular basis, but they continue to say he has no limitations. (Now basketball is done, and he is playing baseball and doing field- shot-put and discus- for his school.)
The septal enlargement was caught when they were screening for a hereditary aortic root enlargement, which he does not have. My other son does have a mild form of aortic root enlargememnt however. I guess we are big-hearted people!
Anyway, I wish all of you best wishes and offer my prayers for everyone and their family members dealing with HCM. I appreciate all of the information you provided when I really needed it, and the concern you had for my child even when I didnt like what you had to say!
Take care!
