  • Update on my sister

    Hi all,

I just got copies of latest medical reports for my sister (From India. A few days ago I had posted about her pregnancy)

One of the things mentioned in there is that "these findings are consistent with progression to dilated cardiomyopathy" . Same report also mentions about concentric hypertrophy of the left ventricle. What does having these two conditions together mean? Isnt dilated CM worse than HCM?

Do you guys know of any associations connected with dilated CM?

I have a copy of her echo? How do I find out the thickness of her heart wall? What should I be looking for? Is it called Interventricular Septum? It says 0.46? What does that mean?

    Please help

I am sorry to say , it is very concerning that the report about your sister states the 2 types of cardiomyopathy. It would be a very good decision for you to private message Lisa at this time and to get direct contact with her regarding the interpretation of the facts. I know you have many questions that are in need of good solid answers. This is why I want you to get direct input from the best source available; Lisa. I am sure you have more then full plate of anxiety on your plate at this time and I wish to minimize it if at all possible.
Please keep us in formed, we are concerned.

Concentric hypertrophy of the left ventricle means that the most of the left ventricle is thickened. The part about HCM moving into dilated cardiomyopathy isn't a very good thing. She should be getting to an expert as soon as she can. There may be things they can do to help her that a non-expert wouldn't know.

      Husband has HCM.
      3 kids - ages 23, 21, & 19. All presently clear of HCM.
