  • First I am a mom

Well today I got the call from school - Becca's heart was racing and her chest hurt - Becca is now 9.

I told the nurse to have her lay down and give her some water. She said OK - I said I will call you back in 5 minutes. I called my local Peds Cardiologist - I was going to bring her down to the office - but unfortunately they could not see her - so off to the ER for Miss Becca.

She had an echo - no real big changes - but her heart is hyperdynamic. She will go back for a holtor Wends. and follow up with a stress test next week.

In short I think I am now the mom - I have been the granddaughter, daughter, sister, aunt and friend of someone with HCM - now it appears that my role will be the mom - I would rather have HCM twice! But then again we do not get to choose our paths sometimes do we.

Becca is a real little charmer - the folks at the ER could not do enough for her. She said mom do ya think I have HCM - I said well sweetie I think so, how does that make you feel? She looked at me with such honesty and said - I would rather not - but OK. She paused and started talking about the barn and what she planned to do to jump better next time.

The moral of the story - life goes on... LIVE IT!

    Take care all!
    Lisa

Re: First I am a mom

        Dear Lisa,
It is a sorrowfull thing for us as parents to not be able to take the pains and possibilities of tough times away from our children. There is not one thing we would not bare for my kids if we could. I said a prayer when my children were born that god only send them the minimum of lifes worries and pains if at all possible. I offered myself to stand in whenever it was deemed possible for the harshest if it would spare them . I meant it then and I ask the same each day of my life.

I hope and pray that if Becca has to have this disease that it only be the mildest form possible. A very big blessing is that Becca has you for her mom. Please give her a great big hug and tell her that her HCM family is praying for her to have that wonderfull and full life.

First, please give Becca a BIG hug from me. She shows such strength, it must come from you.
I pray that the test results show no major changes and courage and faith that you have as much strength for Becca as you have shown here for each and every one of us. Becca is your main concern and I know you will do everything possible to make the future as painless as possible. May God keep you and your family in his loving hands.
                  HUGS

Re: First I am a mom

                          Lisa,

Now you get a glimpse of my world. Every 6 months we wait to see if it is worse or the same. I really understand your feelings. I cannot sympathize with being the "one" with HCM since that is not my role, but I can understand the mom role since both my kids are in the "club". Not as easy to deal with it when its the kids as compared to it being you. I can tell you how it worries me more when my kids say "my heart is racing" or "my heart hurts" than me having GERD or a heart dysrhymmia myself. I know you understand.

Take it one day at a time and try not to worry too much. Becca sounds a lot like her mom and is wise beyond her years. I found my kids are very resiliant (sp?) as Becca is showing you.

                            Dear Lisa & Becca,
You are both wonderful people that have a great outlook on life! I admire all that you do for other's Lisa and now you can hold Becca in the circle of great education, information, support, love and care through the HCMA. We are very lucky and honored to have both of you in the club that no one asked to join. Anyway you look at it, our lives are blessed by the lives of those that passed before us and paved the way to your wonderful organization!

I wish all the best to Becca and the care that she will receive from this group, the affiliated specialists, and all the care givers along the way. The HCMA was created in honor of her Aunt Lori and to help others that must walk this journey!! There is still a lot of fun life left in all of us and part of the HCMA support is sharing in all different parts of our lives. Thanks to everyone for making this group so wonderful and supportive.

                            Keep a smiling girlfriends!

Know my prayers are with you and little Becca. She's a strong kid I knew that from the day I met her at NEMC. Take care of your family first if there is anything you need we are here for you. You have helped us so much with this forum and the special attention you give to us in our times of need.
